the grandmother hypothesis
Have you heard of the Grandmother Hypothesis?
In a nutshell it speaks to how the longevity and crystallized intelligence of women post-menopause may contribute to better outcomes for her family.
While the hypothesis is narrow, it really applies to how ALL women (regardless of if they’ve had kids or not—by choice, infertility, early menopause, etc.) are so important to building and improving society post menopause.
Menopause is not an ending or beginning of becoming invisible, it’s a new beginning—a second blooming into a rich new phase of life.
Check out the hypothesis. I especially love the way that it’s discussed in The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter.
Be well!
