Bringing sexy back
Hot flashes. Worst description ever.
When I first started taking Tamoxifen five years ago the flashes started off from my neck up as low rise but very obvious temperature increase that lasted a minute or two. My mom got me this cute little handheld fan to help. It worked, but only when I had it with me. I thought they would just happen randomly. I had no idea that when I started to feel stressed or pressured at work, mad at my husband for whatever the reason, or embarrassed or nervous, that they could also come on. So you mean to tell me these are both involuntary and tied to my emotions??
I was able to manage and they even faded away. I was still having a normal cycle so just thought I checked hot flashes off the list while on hormone therapy.
When I had my recurrence and had to shift to legit, sho nuf ovarian suppression aka full on medically induced menopause, my rebranded hot flashes were NOTHING like what I experienced before.
These new hot blooms (called out appropriately by Dr. Jen Gunter in the Menopause Manifesto) changed into full body eruptions of heat that can last over five to ten minutes. During the day, I get that same feeling like right before it’s time to vomit. I’m hot all over, sometimes feel nauseous, and don’t want to move or be spoken to as my temperature rises.
However the worst are at night. And so I quickly abandoned my comfy cotton pajamas that were tried and true for keeping me warm and had to reach back into my drawer and grab all the COMFORTABLE mesh, lace, and back-out satins I could find. I guess you could say that was my way of bringing sexy back lol.
I certainly go to bed a lot cuter these days—but don’t get it twisted, not quite as cute as the photo I posted. That was from a boudoir session a couple months ago (shout out to PJ Crame Photography), but that’s the vibe my nightwear is currently on. Not saying that the feeling at bedtime lines up—but that’s a whole other subject that I will get to later or maybe not. My mom is proof-reading this! :)
But anyways how do you go to bed now? Have you changed your nighttime wardrobe? I need some suggestions.
