know your lemons
As a breast cancer survivor, I was only aware of two signs and symptoms of cancer but after becoming a Lemonista for Know Your Lemons, my knowledge has deepened and I want to share all the learnings with everyone I know!
There’s an amazing FREE app called Know Your Lemons. It was developed by Corinne Ellsworth-Beaumont after losing both grandmothers and a close friend to breast cancer. Her mission in starting Know Your Lemons was to ensure that breast education was free, accessible, and uncensored. She also wants to make sure that breast cancer is found in it’s earliest stages because when it is, survival outcomes are dramatically better.
So let’s hop in!
Do you know that there are 12 signs and symptoms that can indicate breast cancer? If not, here they are for your reference:
External bump
Thick area
Dimple
Growing vein
Nipple crust
Sunken nipple
Red or Hot
New shape/size
New fluid
“Orange Peel” skin
Skin sores
Hard lump
Not every symptom indicates breast cancer, but if you experience any of these changes, the next best move is to have it checked out by a medical provider. If you do not have access to a medical provider due to insurance, there are free resources listed on the American Cancer Society’s website.
Self-breast exams can be intimidating and awkward. But when you know your normal, it makes it easier to notice changes.
Know Your Lemons shows you how to do a proper self-breast exam, explains the best time of the month (if you’re still having cycles) and uses creative imagery to make the process more routine.
Early detection is easy with the right tools and it can save lives—it saved me twice!!
